Summary of Internship
I had a variety of roles as an intern. First, I served as a secretary for the floor and I assisted the staff in word processing and creating presentations for them. Next, I also I had an opportunity to shadow a physicianís assistant and nurses every week. As a result of this I was able to see how care was administered to patients with diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimerís, Parkinsonís and those who had suffered from strokes. I learned a great deal about which medications were given to which patients and why; for instance, heparin, a blood thinner is given to patients who cannot move so that they do not develop bed sores. This is a great internship for any student who is interested in a career in nursing and patient care.
