Mentor(s):Ms. Lisa Gallo
Topic of Internship
Doubletree is an upscale hotel chain operated by Hilton Hotels Corporation. As of April 2007, it currently owns 174 properties, servicing more than 40,900 rooms throughout the United States, Canada, and Latin America. Doubletree Hotels, Suites, Resorts and Clubs present a chocolate chip cookie to each guest at check-in. Synonymous with Doubletree hospitality, the cookie has been used to differentiate the Doubletree hotel brand from its competition. The Doubletree in Fort lee is a private branch of the Hilton Hotel franchise owned by two sisters, Ashley Yook and Angeline Cho. The Doubletree consists of many different departments: engineering, accounting, catering/sales, front office, house keeping, including the Human Resources which is run by my mentor Lisa Gallo. Each department contributes greatly to the success of the Hilton hotel. Without any of these departments the hotel would not be able to run.
Summary of Internship
My mentor Lisa Gallo is the manager of the human resources department of the Doubletree in Fort Lee. As director of this department, she has many responsibilities such as announcing important employee information, hiring or firing employees, and training staff among other things. One thing that I did learn about this internship is that a manager has to create a positive environment for all employees and he/she has to make all employees happy. As an intern I was responsible for the Applicant Flow Logs which are records of all the people who come to the hotel and apply for a position. These applications vary each week depending on how many positions need to be filled and how many advertisements are posted. I was also in C.A.R.E. meetings which had members of all departments who had to come up with ideas on how to get the score rating of the hotel up and find ways to motivate the workers to have a good work environment.
