Summary of Internship

At Smith Barney, I have been given the opportunity to explore a wide range of elements that ultimately come together to satisfy the client. The most important thing Iíve learned is that the clientís happiness and satisfaction is the top priority. Of course, bringing in business is just as important. I had three main responsibilities at my internship. First, I listened to conference calls that my mentor, Mr. Liebb, deemed important. These calls from company executives, industry earnings calls, and those from inside Citigroup, proved to be extremely insightful into todayís national economy. I took notes on these calls, and then discussed them with my mentor. My second task consisted of creating models in Microsoft Excel that my mentor used to monitor his stock performance and relationships with his clients. I created new models, or at least made modifications to existing ones on a weekly basis. My third job included updating these models and tables and verifying that they were all rational and accurate. In the end, I learned that the fundamental part of this business is the building of personal relationships with clients and coworkers. These relationships are the foundation of all else there is to come.
