Summary of Internship
Interns at the Valley Hospital, will be on a learning track, called a rotation, through three major departments in "Pre-Pediatrics". They are, in the order of attendance, at the Invitro Fertilization Center, the Mother/Baby/NICU, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. Each rotation focuses on a different stage in obstetrics and pre-pediatrics, from the health at conception of a child, to childbirth, and the care afterward. Each rotation provides a rare opportunity to be hands-on and involved in the internship. At each department, interns will be given the chance to learn, but also are expected to act as volunteers. At Valley's In vitro Fertilization I did volunteer work filing papers one moment, and then got the chance to sit in and observe procedures the next. At the Mother/Baby/NICU floor at the main hospital, my responsibility was stocking supplies in the nursery. Afterward, I would be able to participate in bringing babies to their mothers, watching deliveries, as well as watch operations performed on babies. The Maternal Fetal Medicine's department allows interns to shadow sonographers and nurses who teach you about their trade. This internship is ideal for students who wish to gain as much knowledge about various medical careers first hand.
