Background Information

For over seventy years, Coffin Turbo Pumps has set the standard for quality and reliability in steam driven boiler feed pumps. From the 1920's to today, this company has developed from a supplier of ultra compact boiler feed pumps in railroad locomotives to the premier manufacturer of marine boiler feed pumps. These pumps are installed on technologically advanced LNG carriers. Coffin Turbo Pumps remains the world’s recognized leader for marine boiler feed pumps. Our customer list includes the big time oil companies and shipyards in the world, such as Exxon, Petrobras, Shell Oil, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Chantiers De Atlantique, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kvaerner Masa-Yards and Newport News Shipbuilding. Coffin possesses the technical capability to design and manufacture products to meet the most challenging applications.

Summary of Internship

My role as an intern at Coffin Turbo Pumps is to reproduce the old drawings in the archive, update them to CAD (computer aided design), and digitally save them on the system. I use AutoDesk Inventor Professional 2009 to do most of my work. I refer to this program as CAD. I also use the drawings to design 3D model renderings of the drawings. With these 3D models, I am able to reproduce drawings for these pumps. This is all done with the useful program Auto Desk Inventor Professional. I also am learning how the engineering department engages with the rest of the departments in the company.
