Topic of Internship
The Sunshine Garden Learning Center is a pre-school for students between the ages of three to five years old at the Teaneck Recreation Department in Teaneck, New Jersey. Headed by Ms. Lisa Skulnik, the class has about sixty students with two teachers and five assistant teachers. The class is broken up into three groups for first time students, and Pre-K students in intermediate and advanced groups where they are taught basic arithmetic, phonics, Spanish, and writing. In the afternoon, students from other Teaneck schools as well as the Sunshine Garden Learning Center participate in the After Care program. Kindergartners are paired with the pre-school students while elementary schools through middle school students are grouped together in another room.
Summary of Internship
My role as an intern is somewhat of an assistant teacher. I have the opportunity to assist in lessons with the other teachers as well as help students one-on-one if they need assistance. I also regulate like a responsible adult and make sure that the students are behaving while learning. It is also a responsibility of mine to make sure all of the students are safe and receive the excellent education that the program has to offer. I communicate with the students, ofter resulting positivly with what I have taught them. It is an amazing internship opportunity for anyone who wishes to work with children or in education.
