Summary of Internship
Located in the heart of the financial district in New York City, Scotia Capital (USA) Inc. has proven itself to be a welcoming and educational experience. Just blocks from Wall Street, my experience at this internship has widened far beyond the walls of Scotia Capital and introduced me to the surrounding New York Stock Exchange and dozens of nearby banks that are part of the global economy. Within the company, my tasks included filing, copying, and recording files on a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. I also assist with updating account information through a program called ADP. Throughout the year, I have spent time with different departments of Scotia Capital to gain a full perspective of how much work and effort is put into keeping just one company up and running. For half the year, I sat with people responsible for the business aspects of the company such as compliance and accounting. The remainder of the year I was given the opportunity to sit on the actual trading floor where sounds of “Buy this!” and “Sell that!” filled the room. It is a great experience to work closely with Scotia Capital employees who allow me to learn firsthand all aspects of the business.
