Background Information

The Okonite Company was founded in 1878 as one of the first original cable making companies. Okonite’s headquarters is located in Ramsey, New Jersey. It is also here that people unite their abilities to provide our everyday cables. There are six manufacturing locations that are listed below: • Ashton, Rhode Island • Paterson, New Jersey • Orangeburg, South Carolina • Orangeburg, South Carolina (Compounding Facility) • Richmond, Kentucky • Santa Maria. Their Paterson plant in New Jersey is actually the only paper insulating cable plant in the US. Throughout, these facilities have provided thousands of cables worldwide, from the deepest tunnels to the highest buildings. The whole existence of Okonite itself can be compared to the saying of “there’s always room for improvement”.

Summary of Internship

As an intern at Okonite, I have the opportunity to witness and experience first hand the field of mechanical and electrical engineering. This is exciting to me because I wanted to major in this field. At Okonite, I am learning how to use AutoCAD since I have to edit various diagrams. I also have learned a lot about the field of engineering, machines and systems of various plants, structures and buildings, and lastly the company's experience and history. I feel as if I can never finish learning about Okonite because it is so grandiose that it opens another door of mystery when one is solved. This experience has opened up my view of the world because nothing is as simple as it seems.
