Holy Name Medical Center was founded in 1925 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Peace. Within the hospital there are centers of excellence in cancer care, cardiovascular services, interventional radiology, dialysis treatment, women’s health care, neurological services, state of the art diagnostic treatments, and health management services. Holy Name Medical Center provides high quality health care which extends to treatments and recovery. It was the first hospital in New Jersey and the third in the world to use respiratory gating technology to treat lung cancer. They offer a minimally invasive alternative to lung cancer surgery called, Radiofrequency Ablation, also known as RFA. It was also the first hospital in New Jersey to perform Cardiac PET/CT stress testing, which is available only at prestigious hospitals. This hospital is also significant because they are the first to offer both, the Cardiac PET/CT stress testing and the 64-Slice CT Angiography. This hospital has received an outstanding three JD Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Awards for Inpatient, Outpatient and Emergency Service Excellence. Each year the hospital receives 26,000 inpatients, 44,000 Emergency Department patients and 18,000 outpatient clinic and ambulatory surgery patients. There are 700 certified physicians who treat these patients and have their own specialties. Holy Name Medical Center has been affiliated with the New York-Presbyterian Health System since 1997, which has brought a numerous number of services such as an upgraded nursery, increased access to clinical trials programs, and more educational opportunities for the physicians. The hospital is also affiliated with the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Holy Name Hospital has now changed to Holy Name Medical Center as of March 9,2010.
Summary of Internship
As an intern at Holy Name Medical Center my duties are very rewarding and engrossing. I start off my day at 9:30 am and end at about 3:30. From 9:30 to 12 I work as an office assistant in the physical therapy wing of the hospital. While in the physical therapy department I scan all of the out-patient records into the hospital out-patient data base. From 12 to about 12:30 I go to lunch in the amazing Holy Name Medical Center employee café. My last part of the day is spent in Courtesy where I get to explore the many different floors and wings of the hospital while doing helpful tasks for nurses, doctors and various other hospital worker, and patients.
