Summary of Internship

Interns at the Valley Hospital have the ability to rotate in three departments. My first rotation was in the Mother/Baby/Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This exciting department offered an array of opportunities, including viewing procedures, shadowing nurses and doctors, and helping out around the nursery. My second rotation in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Same Day Medical. I had the ability to watch numerous angiograms and other procedures involving the heart. With much anticipation, I got to see a coronary bypass surgery. I was in the actual operating room next to the cardiac anesthesiologist, nearly inches away from living heart. The cardiac surgeon was talking to me throughout the whole surgery. My third rotation was in the Emergency Department. I have rotated through pediatrics, the south emergency room, triage, and minor treatment. My typical day involves shadowing nurses and doctors, while helping them with various tasks. This department offers hands-on experience with limitless flow of knowledge learned.
