Background Information

The Aquarian Weekly is an alternative music newspaper that has served the tri-state area since the early Ď70s. Every week, The Aquarian is responsible for keeping the public informed about the constantly changing world of music through the use of interviews, CD reviews, features and concert previews. It also provides up and coming bands with their first taste of publicity and exposure by spotlighting their upcoming performances and reviewing their albums and concerts. In addition, The Aquarian Weekly publishes DVD reviews, horoscopes, and political editorials.

Summary of Internship

Basically what I do on a weekly basis is write spotlights. Spotlights are short blurbs about bands and their upcoming shows in the area. I get to research the band, and then I basically have to sum up what they sound like, what they were working on last and the details about the show. Sometimes I will also review newly released albums, usually of bands I have never heard of. Itís extremely fun and rewarding what I do, and it gives me exposure to some great music.I also attend shows whenever I can with some of the other interns. Now on Thursdays we also do a live feed from the office that allows people to see how we function and interact with us on a personal level, which I think is really neat.
