Summary of Internship
My internship has offered me a valuable insight of New Jersey’s state legislature. As an intern at the Office of Senator Gerald Cardinale, I am responsible for performing daily office tasks. I usually begin the day by opening and sorting the mail. Constituents often call the office when they need help on an issue, and I write down the necessary information and give it to the appropriate staff member. By interacting with staff members and constituents, I have been able to learn the communication skills that are required in an office setting. My other responsibilities include filing important papers, making copies, and stuffing envelopes for mass mailings. I also sort invitations for the senator’s schedule and search addresses for condolence letters and memorials. As I have interned at Senator Cardinale’s office, I have gained a better understanding of the New Jersey state government. Anyone who is interested in politics and government should pursue the opportunity to intern in a legislative office.
