Company/Organization: Churchill Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Topic of Internship
The Churchill Orthopedic Rehabilitation (COR) establishment was opened with one goal in mind: to achieve absolute excellence in the field of orthopedic physical therapy. Unlike other physical therapy organizations, COR focuses on each individual patient as a whole rather than focusing solely on the injury or illness. Although the injury/illness is not the main focal point, it is something that is taken care of through unparalleled treatment. COR values communication as a key element of its core competence, which is within each staff member. Churchill Orthopedics provides unmatched skill along with state of the art equipment to ensure that patients receive optimal treatment for their concerns.
Summary of Internship
My internship day starts at about 9:00am and goes until 5:00pm. Although these are my typical hours, the schedule is flexible and can be altered. At my internship I maintain the facility by cleaning tables after a patient is done with their treatment, keeping the tables supplied with proper materials at all times, keeping the waiting area in proper order, keeping the refrigerator stocked, and making sure that the laundry is done. I also assist the therapists by getting them whatever they need to treat the patient. In addition to these duties, the most important job I have at my internship is to communicate with the patients. There should never be a patient left alone, and itís a major part of my job to keep the patient company and help them in any way that I can. Each week I also get a small research topic related to the physical therapy field which I discuss later with my mentor for a deeper understanding.
