Summary of Internship
Fashion shoots or watching models strut down runways are glamorous. My days interning in the production/technical design department at Donna Karan New York (DKNY) are filled with the details of model fittings, pre-production meetings, plus the usual filing and copying. While my internship does not seem as glamorous as people might believe, my experience has been extremely rewarding. Interning here has challenged people's belief that clothes are easy to design and make. I learned that as a fashion designer, it is important to consider the technical aspects that require attention to miniscule dtails. The placement of a button can impact the way clothing fits a consumer. While it may seem a trivial matter, it is what makes all the difference to a piece of clothing. Without the consideration of strategic details, our clothes wouldn't be complete clothing, but merely scraps of fabric and clumps of thread. I value my experience at DKNY because it has allowed me to learn so much about the realities of the fashion world.
