Summary of Internship
As an intern in the Pharmacy department, I get to follow the standard procedures granted to all volunteers and junior interns. I have the opportunity to meet pharmacy technicians and pharmacists who introduce me into their field of work. I help fill out the trays for departments such as the labor & delivery and cardiac arrest departments. I observe the technicians as they pull drugs from PYXIS for the Pharmacy Satellites in order to keep the drugs in their respective department close by so that it is easier to assemble for surgeries or other medical procedures. I have watched videos that have taught me the proper handling techniques and procedures for IV training. I learned how to do pediatric unit dosing as well as medication delivery and compounding. I have also observed the inventory process, medicine filling process, and the verification process. As an intern, I get the opportunity to try out everything the pharmacy has to offer.
