Summary of Internship

As an intern at New York- Presbyterian Hospital I have been given the opportunity to experience the life of a nurse every Thursday. At first, I was very confused with what department I wanted to be in and being a minor was a factor as well. It prevented me from being able to be in certain departments. I ended up choosing the Orthopedic Surgery department. In this department, treatment is provided for musculoskeletal disorders, bone fractures, trauma, joint diseases and injuries, and spinal injuries. I have spent my time helping the nurses of the 7 Garden North floor take care of patients in order to provide them with a speedy recovery. My day usually consists of discharging patients, making patient information packets, answering call bells, and taking on the role of the Unit Assistant, which consists of me being a secretary. Through this internship I gained the experience of what life is like for a nurse and how to conduct myself in a hospital.
