Summary of Internship
Interns at the Valley Hospital are provided with an opportunity to rotate through three departments of their choice. My rotations consisted of Maternal Fetal Medicine, In Vitro Fertilization, and Mother/Baby/NICU. In these departments I receive a hands-on learning experience from nurses and doctors focusing on specific stages in obstetrics and pre-pediatrics. Students are given the opportunity to work alongside the medical staff but are also required to act as volunteers. At the Maternal Fetal Medicine department, I shadowed sonographers who taught me about the health of a pregnant woman and their baby. I also did volunteer work by filing papers and preparing new patient folders. At the In Vitro Fertilization Center, I was given the opportunity to observe procedures and sit in on patient case discussions. In the Mother/Baby/NICU, I did a lot of volunteer work by stocking and organizing supplies. I was also able to see procedures such as circumcisions and deliveries. Interning at The Valley Hospital is the ideal internship for students who wish to receive a better understanding of a specific medical career.
