Background Information

Arts Horizons is a non-profit arts-in-education organization established in 1978 by John Devol, trumpet player, music educator and parent. He played in the orchestra of A Chorus Line for 15 years, and formed Festival Brass with fellow musicians. The group was successful and a non-profit organization, Festival of Music, was born, and later changed its name to Arts Horizons in 1995. This organization has two missions; one is to foster development of the whole person and to improve education through quality arts programs, and another is to make music, art, dance, theatre, new media and creative writing an integral part of life and learning. To accomplish these missions, Arts Horizons has several arts programs such as artist-in-residence programs or Interactive live performances.

Summary of Internship

I intern in the marketing department at Arts Horizons for the most part, but I often work in the finance department as well. This internship lets me have many new experiences. Part of my work includes looking up information about schools, making photocopies, creating an Excel spreadsheet, using QuickBooks to produce financial reports, installing new computers and printers, or stuffing envelopes (brochures, invitation, newsletters, etc.) and mailing them in at the post office. I complete tasks assigned by different staffs every time. It gives me an opportunity to experience many different jobs and find the significance in them.
