The Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, founded on June 14, 1890, is a non-profit 550 bed acute care hospital located in Englewood, NJ. Its mission statement is to be devoted to “the care, maintenance and cure of the sick, the injured and the infirm.” Over the past years the hospital has grown and it is currently affiliated with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and the Mount Sinai Consortium for Graduate Medical Education, and thus has trained students in several different medical disciplines. Additionally the Hospital has won many honors from the Joint Commission and other organizations and is a part of the 6% of hospitals nationwide that have won the Magnet nursing award.
Summary of Internship
Interning at the Arrhythmia Center I’ve had the chance to see the side of the hospital involving consults and procedures, but also to see the side involving the inner workings of a hospital. This mostly involves clerical work such as filing, answering phones, and faxing. It may seem like only a small part of the hospital, but in fact it impacts everything and everyone. For example when a new patient is admitted to the hospital it is my job to collect his/her paperwork for Dr. Simons or the other doctors, so that they can figure out how to treat the patient. Without this important task it would take the doctors much longer to figure out the problem and determine how to fix it.
