Summary of Internship

Being a pharmacy intern at Palisades Medical Center gave me the opportunity to experience hands-on learning of the pharmacy field and observe the welcoming environment and interactions between the healthcare professionals. Medicine has become a significant role in todayís daily lifestyles. It is important for the experts in this field, the pharmacists, to accurately dispense drugs and their dosages to patients because an error in hearing or reading the drugís name can be the point between health improvement and deterioration. As an intern at this department, it is one of our duties to perform our tasks with great alertness and attention to the small details. Daily duties at my internship include filling and labeling patient cassettes, gathering medication for labels and leaving them for pharmacists to check, delivering these medications to patient floors, and observing and shadowing pharmacy technicians around in their daily duties to be able to learn about how everything is run. Learning about the different kinds of medications and their effects and usage is something that happens as you perform your duties. Thatís what makes this a great experience. You donít have to sit around memorizing all the drugs and their mechanism of action. Your help is greatly appreciated by the friendly staff. They are always glad to answer any questions you may have.
