Topic of Internship
Today, Hackensack Medical Center is one of the top 50 hospitals in the United States. It was founded in 1888 with 12 beds becoming Bergen County’s first hospital. HUMC is Bergen County’s biggest employer as well as New Jersey’s largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital offers many services to patients; one of the most important is proper nutrition. The Lobby Café, opened every day and located in the Link Lobby, is part of the Department of Nutrition & Food Management. The department is in charge of making sure an appetizing meal plan is available for every patient who visits the hospital.
Summary of Internship
Being an intern at the Lobby Café, I have learned that every day you have to show up with a lot of patience so you can be prepared to interact with every customer that comes through the café. Each day is different and you never know what to expect so you have to be ready to agree to do whatever is needed. You also have to be able to work as a team and get along with the other workers in the Café as it will play a vital role in how much you enjoy yourself. Working at the Lobby Café has been a really fun experience and I have learned many new things that can help me in the future.
