Company/Organization: Rochelle Park Board of Education
Mentor(s):Mr. Jeff Grossman-Social Studies Teacher
Topic of Internship
The internship is a great opportunity for students to learn about the field of education , and it is a worthy experience what it would be like to be a Social Studies teacher for middle school students. The classes available to be taught are Ancient History, World Cultures, and U.S. History. Each class period is 40 minutes and the school day runs from 8:00am to 2:45pm. The intern will be treated almost like a student teacher and take on the responsibilities any other teacher would throughout the day. The internship takes place at Midland School #1 in Rochelle Park.
Summary of Internship
An intern gets a very well rounded experience as a teacher for a day. The intern will be able to create lesson plans for forty minute periods. Lesson plans would consist of creating handouts, power point/keynote presentations, interactive lessons that will engage students, create quizzes, and assign homework. Furthermore, the internship gives the opportunity for an intern to learn class room management skills and how to deal with the different problems of each individual student. When not teaching classes, the intern will grade papers, observe classes, and participate to help students learn the material. The internship as a whole is in a professional capacity and is required to take the full role and responsibility of what would be expected of any other teacher.
