Summary of Internship
The Biomedical Engineering Department at the Hackensack University Medical Center plays a big role in the entire organization. This department is responsible for repairing and servicing all patient-related equipment that comes into the hospital. Any new patient-related equipment that comes into the hospital as well as equipment that patients bring is brought to the BME Department. Because this is a crucial role for the safety of the patients, this department can be considered one of the most important in the hospital. During my time here, I learned how to test various machines as well as put together several ones. I’ve worked on compression pumps, polar caps, wires and assembled a baby warmer stand. The experience here is very important for me because I got to learn hands-on instead of just learning by reading a textbook.
