The organization has also been recipient to many awards, such as the Organization of the Year Award (2012) and the Russell Berrie Award for Making a Difference (2012), for their selfless actions and contributions to society.
Summary of Internship
My internship at MEVO has provided me with an overall experience of what it is like to work for a not-for-profit environmental organization. I entered the internship not knowing what to expect of it, but was able to learn about the work that goes into maintaining a not-go-profit organization and participate in environmental activities. Running an organization requires a lot of work and communication with other contacts and groups. As the Communication Relations Intern at MEVO, I wrote numerous emails, called many people and attended plenty of meetings, in order to keep the organization operating. I also directly participated in hands-on activities, such as gardening, composting and bee-keeping. MEVO is a great internship for those who wish to obtain a holistic experience and to learn both the administrative and practical skills that are involved in running such an organization. Best of all, the environmental knowledge that I have accrued throughout the internship can be applicable to my own lifestyle to promote healthier and more sustainable ways of living.
