Summary of Internship
Every Thursday, I have the valuable opportunity of gaining real workplace experience in the eyes of a therapist. Each morning, I go through my "daily procedure," which involves folding the already dried linen and washing and drying the sheets and towels from the previous day. I then proceed to following my mentor, while maintaining the cleanliness of the clinic. As time passes, my mentors teach me new skills, which I then perform, while I am being observed.
During my time as an intern, I learn various skills, ranging from simple maintenance procedures to classic therapeutic procedures. Simple maintenance procedures involve basic cleaning, material restock, and ways of folding. The classic therapeutic procedures involve the interview process, setting hot/cold packs and stimulators, assisting the patient while he or she are exercising, and patient transport. The most important skill I learn is self improvement and background behind the procedures. As the weeks pass, I find myself connecting the once-lectured materials to reality of a workplace. This is truly an incredible experience, for which I am grateful for.
