Summary of Internship
The Biomedical Engineering Department in HUMC is one of the most important departments in the hospital. There job is to make sure that all of the patient related care equipment in the hospital are functioning properly and that they meet all manufactures specifications. Some examples are as follow: such as ECG, SCD, SPO’2, NBP, and even items like a fridge and a microwave that are used for special needs are performing properly, and each item is registered correctly into a database (for tracking purposes). I learned various theories and hands-on, technical skills related to machines that I would have learned years from now. All this knowledge really put me ahead of the competition. My mentor Wayne (technician), has taught me how to not get in the way of people such as nurses when we work on equipment. He has taught me life lessons and good work ethics which are going to help me in life. I strongly suggest looking into this internship even if you’re slightly interested.
