Summary of Internship

For my internship, I alternate weekly between the Inpatient and Outpatient Physical Therapy Departments. Regardless of which department I intern at, I still have to do the same task. I have to gather the equipment which the physical therapists request, clean up the equipment used, and assist the physical therapists whenever they request my assistance. One of the assistance I provide the physical therapists with is following a patient with a wheelchair while the physical therapist is assisting the patient when walking. My internship is an observational based learning meaning I am not allowed to gain hand on experience and I am limited to what I can do. The benefit to be able to intern Inpatient and Outpatient is that I am able to witness a more variety of patients and work ethic. The Outpatient Department brings a more active, busy, and fun environment allowing me to always have something to do. The Inpatient Department deals with more intensive care patients who normally just recovered from a severe illness or surgery. The Inpatient Department is more of a one to one relationship between the physical therapists and the patient while the Outpatient is freer. This internship keeps me busy.
