Summary of Internship
My internship at Mercedes-Benz starts off every morning with me looking over and logging any diesel fuel test results that have been sent to us. I then start work on new assignment or continue working on an assignment from the previous week. A big part of my internship has been writing technical documents called Local Information (LI) documents. LIs provide dealers with information or solutions regarding a specific issue that may arise in Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Writing LI documents involve writing the complaint, cause, and remedy to a problem. In many cases, I have to research cases looking for patterns and looking for a solution. In order to research the issues, I use a multitude of different programs, including Product Technical Support System (PTSS-this is where cases are posted), Technical Information Product System (TIPS-the German edition of PTSS as well as where LIs are posted), Technical Issue Management System (TIMS-where we create topics to keep track of ongoing issues), and Commercial Vehicle CVTekInfo/Passenger Vehicle STARTekInfo (which is used for information on vehicles including wiring diagrams and part catalog). Sometimes my daily assignments include doing things like torque calculations for presentations, updating the buyback list, and even working on vehicles in the shop. Overall, not only have I learned a lot about Mercedes-Benz vehicles, systems, and business, I have also learned how to work in a professional environment and what goes on in the daily life of an Engineer.
