Background Information

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is a medical center located in Englewood, New Jersey. It was first established in 1888 as a nonprofit voluntary health care facility. The center was first devoted to the care and curing of the sick and injured. It was officially opened as a hospital in 1890. Since then, through its past affiliation with Mount Sinai School of medicine, Englewood Hospital was able to improve its care and community. These improvements include the addition of internal medicine, critical care medicine, surgery, pediatrics, podiatry, and pathology. Since its establishment, Englewood Hospital earned many awards and accreditations from the Joint Commission, as well as the Magnet Nursing Award.

Summary of Internship

As an intern in Englewood Hospital, I am able to volunteer in many of the services that are offered by the hospital every Thursday. Through the hospital, the interns are able to enter into surgery rooms as well as observe many treatments and procedures. I specifically intern in the Emergency Department. I transport patients to their specific rooms in terms of how severe the patient’s chief complaint, symptoms, and vital signs are. Furthermore, I observe the movement and actions of how the nurses and physicians, seeing how they treat patients, and how they triage said patients. This internship requires a great deal of patience and perseverance, as sometimes there is almost little to no “action”. However, the days that there is “action” the emergency room is almost packed and I am constantly on my feet.
