Background Information

Goya Foods Inc., founded in 1936, is the biggest Hispanic-owned food company in the U.S. The company has 16 facilities worldwide. They produce and distribute over 2,200 high-quality and affordable products including condiments, pantry items, beverages, canned and frozen, as well as a vast assortment of low sodium, gluten-free, organic, and kosher foods. President Obama personally honored Goya for their success and continuing achievement in 2011, the only company to ever be honored by a president. Goya even collaborated with First Lady Michelle Obama to create a campaign to make Americans more educated on eating healthy called MyPlate/ MiPlato. This is a company that loves to give, which why they engage in many programs, scholarships and activities that benefit families and children throughout the world. Over the years, Goya has donated millions of pounds of food to victims of various disasters and charities worldwide. In 2016, Goya Foods marked their 80th anniversary.

Summary of Internship

Every Thursday, I get the amazing opportunity to engage in multiple business activities. Some of the tasks I do almost every week include keeping extensive data on coupon deductions, placing orders for photo shoots and demos, shipping flyers, and of course, scanning, copying and filing. I am also in charge of updating the discount program, making sure I change the dates and percentages when needed. My mentors give me different assignments every week. Sometimes Alvaro asks me to update excel sheets containing information about Goya products and their UPCs. Other times Andrea asks me to help her prepare items that will be shipped out to the hundreds of brokers. Thereís definitely a lot of trust between me and my mentors. They both have faith that I will do a great job on any task assigned to me and they never need to watch over me. Every week, I continue to become more familiar with the marketing aspects of the business and I keep creating positive relationships with my dedicated coworkers. At Goya, I sharpened my word, excel, and powerpoint skills. I also enhanced my social skills, along with my Spanish. Iím very grateful that Goya has given me a taste of the real world and has influenced my decision to major in marketing.
