Englewood Hospital and Medical Center provides patients with the highest level of care through state-of-the-art clinical programs, advanced treatments and diagnostic services. It is renowned for its “surgery program, cardiac and vascular programs and its leadership in breast care, oncology and joint replacement services”. Englewood Hospital has a Vascular Fellowship Program that has trained a generation of world-class vascular surgeons. Englewood Hospital has earned numerous certifications from the Joint Commission and is among the six percent of hospitals nationwide honored with the Magnet Nursing Award. Interns at the hospital are separated into different health departments, assisting in patient care and aid faculty staff.

Summary of Internship

As an intern volunteering at the Englewood Hospital & Medical Center, I am assigned to the Cardiac Cath Lab. I observe medical procedures such as cardiac catheterizations and angioplasties. In addition, I am responsible for transportation, organization, and documentation of patient files. During these medical procedures I observe doctors as they work on patients and once the operation is complete I am able to ask questions on what has taken place. I alphabetize all patient documents pertaining to the Cardiac Cath Lab and travel throughout the hospital delivering paperwork to other departments. I also create digital video disks requested by doctors or patients, which contains x-rays or videos of where patients were operated on. Efficiency and Responsibility is very important at the hospital. My mentors trust me to complete the tasks assigned that day in a reasonable amount of time. Each week my knowledge of cardiology and my ability to work effectively increases. I am fortunate to have interned at the Englewood Hospital & Medical Center because of the great amount of information I have gained and can later apply in college.
