Summary of Internship
As an intern at the Englewood hospital, I would always start my mornings in the volunteer office at 9 am. For the first few weeks, I had to be in courtesy where I would assist in discharging patients, delivering specimens to the lab, delivering files and sometimes medical equipment from floor to floor. This really helped me get oriented with the hospital which can be tricky to get around. From there I would get assigned to Hospitalist where I got a first-hand experience at how doctors and other medical professionals do rounds on floors. I would go into patients rooms and observe the interactions between doctor and patient and at times had the luxury of a medical student explain the procedure and condition of the patient. For the other half of my time at the hospital, I was assigned to interventional radiology. I got to witness many procedures such as PICC lines, angiographies, stent placements, biliary procedures, and MRI's. To finish off, in the afternoons if there was not much going on, I would help out in courtesy or file papers in cardiac cath. The employees are always friendly and welcoming and my time at Englewood Hospital gave me a great sense of how things work in a hospital setting.
